How to Get to Rum Cay?

Want to share a flight? Go to our Rum Cay Air Charters page for open flights and shared charters!

Rum Cay Airport code - MYRP

Lat.: N23 42' 30" - Long.: W 74 50' 00" - Size: 30 Sq. mls

Getting to Rum Cay can provide its challenges but we do give you some options below! Rum Cay is roughly 9 miles x 5 miles and located right in between San Salvador (20 miles to the East) and Long Island to the West. The small uninhabited island of Conception is just north of Rum accessible by boat within the hour or so.

In 2004 the Bahamian Government gave Rum Cay a brand new 4500 foot paved runway with 500 ft over runs. It was a huge upgrade from the 2000 ft grass airstrip further south on the island! Services at the airport are non-existent but at least there's a fence up to keep the cows out!

Flights to Rum Cay

From Nassau

Southern Air has turned out to be a more reliable means of air travel from Nassau to Rum Cay. They are currently (as of March 2014) offering flights on Fridays and Sundays. The fare is $260 return. The will fly on other days but you must purchase five seats or have five people.

For more information contact them in Nassau at 1 242-323-6833.  If you're on Rum Cay then contact Ann Strachan at 242 471 0910.

From Long Island, Bahamas

If the above option does not work there are daily flights to Long Island from Nassau. From there you can book a private charter with Island Wings for about $365.

From Southern Florida

Be sure to keep an eye on our Rum Cay Air Charters page for open seats from Fort Lauderdale to Rum Cay and the surrounding islands. Chuck Lincoln will be letting me know when he has open seats available. He flies an Aztec that will seat five passengers or 950 lbs including all your luggage.

If you have more than five or 950lbs then you would need to book a Chieftain. Air Charter Bahamas has a Navajo Chieftain that can accommodate up to 7 people. A one-way flight will run around $4200.

Call us for more options at 1800-730-2148.

If you are arriving by private charter and need a pick up at the airport please call George's Taxi at 242-331-2809 or 242-479-0017. There may not be cell phone service at the airport and the walk to Port Nelson is three very long, dry, lonely miles. Make sure someone knows you are coming! Good idea to have your pilot do a "buzz" over Port Nelson as well!

Where to Clear Customs Prior to Arriving on Rum Cay

Rum Cay currently does NOT have customs services. If you are flying direct from South Florida you must clear customs at a Bahamian island with customs.   We would suggest clearing in to Stella Maris, San Salvador, Georgetown or New Bight.

If you are arriving by boat you will also need to clear in on another island such as San Salvador or Long Island.
